Kanchanaburi is a great little city so close to Bangkok. Tigers can be petted, baby elephants can be bathed, you can walk a section of the notorious ‘Death Railway,’ where so many Allied POWs and Asian forced labourers died, and you can visit the WWII cemetery and museum. As you cross the famous bridge on the train, remember Alec Guinness. It is Thailand’s tourist heaven.

You can see orangutans in Borneo at Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary, which rehabilitates orangutans and releases them into the wild.  In the jungle, there are feeding platforms where semi-rehabilitated orangutans come to eat twice a day.  You can see these amazing animals in the wild in the Malaysian region of Sabah in the virgin rainforest of Danum Valley.  The best time to visit Borneo is from March to October when it is the driest and you will be able to see the most wildlife.
